Where do you train? Next Generation, Northern Ireland

What are your strengths as a fighter? Control, ground and pound. I’m athletic.

Why do you think you’ve made it into The Smashes? I’m ready for it. I train with a lot of guys who are already there. I feel good enough in every area to compete in UFC.

How / why did you start training in MMA? At 16 years old, I started doing judo and got to a pretty high level. Saw UFC 1 and 2 DVDs and wanted to try it. Started training in MMA and went from there, I was looking for a challenge.

How long have you been training in MMA? 5 years

Why do you love MMA? It taught me to respect people. It’s a way of life, it keeps me out of trouble. I love everything about it; it’s the most exciting sport in the world.

Why do you think you will be the next Ultimate Fighter? I’m ready for it.

Do you think the Australia / UK rivalry is going to affect the competition? I think that the rivalry will be really, really good. When I was younger, my dad always listened to the cricket on the radio or was watching cricket and it was always the Ashes.  I asked him what this Ashes thing was and he was like it’s a rivalry between Australia and England. The Brits are always very competitive and I think we’ll all be wanting to do our country proud.

Do you have any heroes? None… Superman
What / who inspires you? My coaches - for their time and support and my fan base - the things they say. I'm also a very competitive person. I was always competitive, even at school.  I played a lot of football and always wanted to win. There are a lot of people following me back home, especially my girl, and they keep me motivated as well.

What would a contract to fight in the UFC mean to you? Everything - the world. I’ve dedicated my life for the last 3 years to get here. It’s every fighter’s dream.

Can you tell us about your family? Mum thinks fighting is the best thing for me - I was in a lot of fights. My granny supports me so much, she is so proud. My girl keeps me going when I’m feeling down, she’s always helped me out financially and she really believes in me. I owe her a fortune.

Can you tell us about your previous fights? For the Cage Contender title, I was fighting against a BJJ black belt fighter. That was my most important fight.

How do you rate your chances in The Smashes? I think I’ve got a pretty good chance.  You’ve gotta be confident. I think I’ve got the tools to go a long way. I’ve been out to America and done some training over there and I feel strong in every area of my game.

What are you most excited about now that you’re in The Ultimate Fighter? Being on TV, having fun. Getting to train with world class coaches, it’s a great opportunity.

Who is / are your favourite UFC fighter/s? Georges St Pierre - I really admire him, for being the most dominant fighter, so athletic and good in every area.

Anything unusual / quirky that you would like people to know about you?
•    My nickname came from my father’s friend.  When I was a kid I was always running around, messing about, giving orders and stuff and he named me Stormin’ Norman after General Herbert Norman Schwarzkopf, the American Commander-in-Chief of Allied Forces in the Gulf War, and it has just stuck with me.
