Main event: Amanda Nunes def. Valentina Shevchenko

Amanda Nunes won a super close split decision, 47-48, 48-47, 48-47, to retain the women’s bantamweight title against Valentina Shevchenko. The fight was different from their first encounter, as both fighters seemed extra tentative in the opening rounds. As the fight progressed Shevchenko started to increase her output and ended up landing more strikes, 104-84 and at a higher percentage (48 percent to 43 percent). Nunes landed two of her three takedowns in the final round to clinch the decision and complete her second title defense.
THEY SAID IT:
Amanda Nunes: “I didn’t think it was close. I thought it was a clear victory for me. She landed a few good punches but I dominated the rounds and, in the last round, I took her down and kept her there to seal the deal. This whole camp, I focused on going five rounds and that’s why I was ready to control the later parts of the fight. Next, I want to go back home and take care of my house and my animals in the face of the Hurricane. Then, I will have a beer and we’ll decide what’s next.”

Co-main: Rafael Dos Anjos def. Neil Magny
Former lightweight champion Rafael Dos Anjos looked like an absolute beast in his second outing after moving up to welterweight. He landed a leg kick that dropped Magny and then took top position. RDA mauled Magny and eventually got to mount where he landed some big blows before sinking in an arm triangle, submitting Magny at 3:43 of the first round to collect his second win at 170. He said after the win he’s coming for the welterweight belt.

THEY SAID IT:
Rafael Dos Anjos: “I really felt like this would be the outcome. People always tell me I’m too short for the division but I fight my best against taller guys. I want to fight for the belt next! I told Sean Shelby that I would fight Tyron [Woodley] if Demian Maia had any issues and now I’ve just beaten Magny. Welterweight is a wide-open division right now and there is no one more deserving of a title shot than me. I’m ready!”

Henry Cejudo def. Wilson Reis
Henry Cejudo looked exactly like the man that many predicted would eventually become Demetrious Johnson’s greatest rival when the former Olympic wrestler decided to turn his attention to MMA just four years ago. “The Messenger” just demolished Wilson Reis, unleashing a devastating striking arsenal before dropping Reis in the second round and finishing him by TKO at :25. Cejudo landed 34 significant strikes at 61 percent total striking in just under six minutes of fight time.

THEY SAID IT:
Henry Cejudo: “ I hadn't won in the Octagon since December 2015 so it feels amazing to get the victory tonight. I had been away for even longer due to my hand injury but I have been training hard and trying to get better. I started practicing karate and have settled into a karate stance. I also have a great boxing team around me to create more dynamic striking. I don't know what is next for me just yet but I'm going back to the gym to keep improving. I will be champion.”

I was looking to stand and trade punches with him but when I felt that I could control his weight, I decided to go with that. I felt him get tired in the third round and that’s when I knew I had him. Next for me, I want to get back to where I was before my last fight. I want a top 5 opponent and I will show that I am one of the best in the UFC.”

EDMONTON, AB - SEPTEMBER 09: (L-R) Jeremy Stephens screams after facing Gilbert Melendez in their featherweight bout during the UFC 215 event inside the Rogers Place on September 9, 2017 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. (Photo by Jeff Bottari/Zuffa LLC/Zuffa LLC via Getty Images)
Jeremy Stephens def. Gilbert Melendez
Jeremy Stephens studied the blueprint laid out by Edson Barboza in Gilbert Melendez’s last fight at 155 pounds: deliver brutal leg kicks. Melendez has a wide stance and Barboza capitalized on it, as did Stephens, who dropped Melendez multiple times in the fight with consistent and thudding leg kicks. Melendez continued to get up each time, at one point even receiving a nod of respect from Stephens, but he ultimately lost by unanimous decision, 30-26, 30-26, 30-25. Stephens won the significant strike battle, 94-48.

THEY SAID IT:
Jeremy Stephens: “ It feels incredible to get the win tonight. Gilbert is as tough as they come so I knew that he wouldn’t stop but there were a couple of moments where the referee seemed like he was going to stop it. Once, I kicked him and the referee stepped in front of me but he never waived off the fight so it was a little strange but it was a fun scrap. I’m not thinking about anything else but going home and getting married right now. I’ll figure out what’s next after that!”
