When and why did you start training for fighting? I started training at the age of 14 in my hometown Coruripe, but right after that I moved to São Paulo and started my professional career.
What ranks and titles have you held? I’m champion of the European event Centurion FC and also the Brazilian event MFC
What fight do you consider to be the key fight in your career and why? Bobby Green, because of how the knockout was set up.
Who is your favorite fighter and why? My favorite fighter today is Alex Poatan, because he goes into fights to finish them, and I try to do the same.
Do you have any heroes? I don’t know about heroes, but my life is all connected with the anime One Piece and with the main character.
What does it mean for you to fight in the UFC? It’s a dream come true; I worked almost my entire life for this moment.
Beyond a championship or money, what motivates you? What motivates me is bringing a message to people who think it’s over for them, because I once thought it was over for me too. When I let Jesus into my life, everything changed. From that moment on, I felt called to help people be transformed by the love of Christ.
What was your job before you started fighting? I had many jobs but the last one I worked was as a bodyguard for a Chinese billionaire.
Tell us about your life outside of fighting: Outside of fighting, first and foremost, I try to live according to God’s will: serving Him with my life and living out His purpose. I also love spending time with my family—my wife, children, and friends. I have two Dogo Argentinos, one American Pit Bull Terrier, and a Maine Coon cat. All of my pets are named after the anime One Piece. My own nickname is Ruffy (Luffy), and our pets are named Nami, Ace, Zoro, and Chopper.
I love nature and spending time with animals on the farm, especially the fighting roosters.
