When and why did you start training for fighting? I started training seriously for MMA when I was 17 while I was a junior in high school. I always loved fighting and always loved the UFC.

What are your current ranks in martial arts? BJJ purple belt, IBJJF purple belt adult world champion and a black belt in the school of hard knocks, via The Bronx, NY.

What does it mean for you to fight in the UFC? It means the world for me to fight for the best organization in the world, and not only that, but staying in the UFC and re-signing multiple contracts and making a name for myself in this organization.

What fight do you consider to be the key fight in your career and why? Mickey Gall, 100%. Considering everything I went through, every obstacle I overcame. Everything stacked up against me. That was the turning point.

Who is your favorite fighter and why? Man, that's tough. I would say GSP. He's the WW GOAT. But Fedor and Sakuraba are up there.

Do you have any heroes outside of fighting? My father. He's seen it all.

Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn? I attended community college.

What was your job before you started fighting? I always had many odd jobs prior to fighting. I’ve been working since I was 16 with the intention of always looking to help my family and provide for them and myself.

Specific accomplishments in amateur competition? 2-0 as an amateur.

Favorite grappling technique: My favorite grappling techniques are any ones that will help me get the finish or cause fight-ending damage.

Favorite striking technique: The same goes for striking - anything that will help me take my opponent out.

Is there a cause that you want to use your platform for? Yeah, for sure. I want to show that you can make it through anything in life if you believe in yourself. Funny how that works... I was supposed to be a loser. So I want to use my platform for those who don't feel significant enough... you're not losers, believe in yourself. Losers can win.

Beyond a championship or money, what motivates you? My family, God and my lineage.

Tell us about your life outside of fighting: Very down to earth. I like shooting guns, anything outdoors and being hands-on. I really enjoy spending time with my girlfriend, my mom and my family.

What is one thing that you want UFC fans around the world to know about you? I'm a tough, dangerous, resilient Mother-Doer. I'm coming for it all.
