Less than a week after a hard-fought three rounder with Eddie Alvarez in the UFC 188 co-main event in Mexico City, former Strikeforce lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez has agreed to replace the injured Bobby Green in UFC Fight Night San Diego's co-main event against rising star Al Iaquinta on July 15.
The event, which is headlined by the heavyweight bout between Frank Mir and Todd Duffee, will air live on FOX Sports 1.
New York's Iaquinta has been the breakout star of 2015, stopping Joe Lauzon and decisioning Jorge Masvidal to extend his winning streak to four. In Melendez, he will be facing the stiffest test of his career, and California's "El Nino" is hungrier than ever to leave the Octagon victorious.
