Poland’s top mixed martial artists will finally meet in the Octagon on Saturday, November 12, when Olsztyn’s Joanna Jedrzejczyk defends her UFC women’s strawweight championship against Lodz’ Karolina Kowalkiewicz in a five-round UFC 205 bout at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Also announced for the historic card, that will mark the UFC’s first event in New York, is a women’s bantamweight bout between former world champion Miesha Tate and hard-hitting contender Raquel Pennington.
Tickets for UFC 205 go on sale on Friday, September 30.
Polish sensation Joanna Jedrzejczyk has taken the UFC by storm since her debut in 2014, and the former Muay Thai world champion has put the 115-pound division on the map with her stirring wins over Claudia Gadelha (twice), Carla Esparza, Jessica Penne and Valerie Letourneau. Fresh from a victory over Gadelha in July that lifted her unbeaten record to 12-0, Jedrzejczyk will now face off with Kowalkiewicz and attempt to successfully defend her crown for the fourth time.
Also unbeaten as a professional, 10-0 Karolina Kowalkiewicz’ last loss in competition took place in an amateur bout against Jedrzejczyk in 2012, and after defeating Randa Markos, Heather Jo Clark and Rose Namajunas in succession, the 30-year-old gets her chance to avenge that defeat and bring home her first world championship belt.
